After much discussion, more discussion!

We have decided to use blogger and the web site as alternative sites for conversation.  I would like to suggest we use this blog for more stream-of-consicousness type talk, and the departure web site for posting resources, and sharing knowledge and information.

  1. Project for Turkey

I am interested in examining the culture of food and feasting. I will be asking the women we meet about what foods they prepare for special occasions like Eid al-Fitr. How these foods differ from what they had traditionally associated with the holiday meals. Whether they are preparing the same sort of meals as their mothers and grandmothers... or how their perceptions of appropriate food has changes. This ties into the memories of food with the memories of culture and expectation. Whether they are eating seasonally or have moved to pre packaged and imported fruits and vegetables. Whether jobs out side of the home and how the changing perception of their roles as providers has changed or been altered by the changing roles of women in Turkish Culture. To prepare for this study I have been reading works on the Anthropology of food and Turkey. Below is the Bibliography of materials I have completed.
